2023 Silverado dimensions: match the cab and bed before checking fit

Dale Hutchins · 4 min read

Compare 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2500HD and 3500HD cab-and-bed combinations, overall lengths, cargo dimensions and practical garage fit.

The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has three bed lengths: 69.9 inches, 79.4 inches and 98.2 inches. The 2500HD and 3500HD use different beds: 82.3 inches or 98.3 inches. Those are inside lengths at the floor—not the truck’s overall length. Chevrolet’s U.S. brochures list these dimensions to one decimal place. (1500 specifications, HD specifications)

Start with the series, cab and bed, then check the trim. A “standard bed” is not the same length on a 1500 and an HD. This chart focuses on cargo and parking fit; for engines and towing setups, see our 2023 Silverado 1500 vs. 2500HD vs. 3500HD comparison.

Silverado 1500 cab-and-bed matrix

Cab Bed Inside bed length Wheelbase Overall truck length
Regular Cab Standard 79.4 in. 126.5 in. 210.9 in.
Regular Cab Long 98.2 in. 139.6 in. 229.6 in.
Double Cab Standard 79.4 in. 147.5 in. 231.9 in.
Crew Cab Short 69.9 in. 147.4 in. 231.9 in.
Crew Cab Standard 79.4 in. 157.0 in. 241.4 in.

Source: Chevrolet’s 2023 Silverado 1500 brochure, Dimensions. The table uses non-Trail Boss/non-ZR2 dimensions; trim availability restricts which combinations you can buy.

For the off-road versions, Chevrolet lists these exceptions:

  • Crew Cab Short Bed Trail Boss: 232.9 inches long; 147.5-inch wheelbase.
  • Crew Cab Standard Bed Trail Boss: 242.4 inches long; 157.1-inch wheelbase.
  • Crew Cab Short Bed ZR2: 232.8 inches long; 147.5-inch wheelbase. (Chevrolet dimensions)

The useful comparison is Double Cab Standard Bed versus Crew Cab Short Bed: both measure 231.9 inches overall in the main table. The Double Cab provides 9.5 inches more bed length, while the Crew Cab provides 43.4 inches of rear legroom versus 35.2 inches—an 8.2-inch difference. Choose between cargo length and rear-passenger space, rather than assuming the Crew Cab is necessarily longer. (Chevrolet specifications)

Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD matrix

These figures cover pickups with factory beds, not chassis-cab or box-delete trucks.

Cab and bed Series availability Inside bed length Wheelbase Overall truck length
Regular Cab Long Bed 2500HD, 3500HD 98.3 in. 141.5 in. 235.5 in.
Double Cab Standard Bed 2500HD 82.3 in. 149.4 in. 240.4 in.
Double Cab Long Bed 2500HD, 3500HD 98.3 in. 162.5 in. 256.5 in.
Crew Cab Standard Bed 2500HD, 3500HD single rear wheel 82.3 in. 158.9 in. 250.0 in.
Crew Cab Long Bed 2500HD, 3500HD 98.3 in. 172.0 in. 266.0 in.

The 3500HD Double Cab is long-bed only. Its Crew Cab Standard Bed configuration uses single rear wheels; dual-rear-wheel configurations in Chevrolet’s guide use the long bed. Do not treat every row as available with every trim or rear-wheel setup. (Chevrolet configuration tables)

Cargo fit: width matters as well as length

Series and bed Width between wheelhousings Inside bed height Cargo volume
1500 Short 50.6 in. 22.4 in. 62.9 cu. ft.
1500 Standard 50.6 in. 22.4 in. 71.7 cu. ft.
1500 Long 50.6 in. 22.4 in. 89.1 cu. ft.
HD Standard 51.8 in. 21.0 in. 69.6 cu. ft.
HD Long 50.5 in. 21.0 in. 83.5 cu. ft.

All these beds measure 71.4 inches wall to wall. Sources: 1500 brochure and HD brochure.

For a 48-by-96-inch sheet, the listed dimensions provide enough width between the wheelhousings in every bed, but only the long beds provide enough floor length with the tailgate closed. A liner, toolbox or other installed equipment can reduce usable space; measure the actual truck before loading and secure the load.

Garage fit: use clear space, not the garage’s name

Calculate usable depth with the garage door closed minus truck length, then allow room for wall obstructions, accessories and walking access.

For example, a genuinely clear 240-inch space leaves only 8.1 inches combined front-and-rear clearance around a 231.9-inch Silverado 1500. A 241.4-inch Crew Cab Standard Bed already exceeds it, and an HD Crew Cab Standard Bed measures 250.0 inches before any accessories.

Check height and mirror clearance separately, especially on lifted trucks and HD duallies. Finally, cargo volume is not payload capacity: use the specific truck’s door-jamb load label and trailering information before adding a heavy load or trailer. (Chevrolet loading and trailering guidance)
