Find the correct OEM dual-alternator belt diagram for a 6.6L Duramax, verify the truck’s year and equipment, and avoid the single-alternator route.
There is no safe universal belt diagram for every 6.6L Duramax with dual alternators. Match the routing to the model year, 6.6L engine and dual-generator configuration before installing the belt.
For a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado HD with the 6.6L Duramax, use the diagram labeled “6.6L 8-Cylinder Engine (Dual Generator)” on page 66 of GM’s 2025 6.6L Duramax Diesel Engine Supplement. The same page distinguishes the single-generator route and also shows the separate secondary/auxiliary fan-drive routing.

Do not select a diagram merely because it says “6.6 Duramax.” GM tells owners to confirm equipment against the vehicle’s purchase documentation because manuals can cover optional equipment and model variants. The 2022 Silverado HD manual likewise directs Duramax owners to the separate diesel supplement for engine-specific information (Chevrolet 2022 Silverado HD owner’s manual).
How to find the OEM diagram for another year
- Record the model year and confirm that the truck physically has two alternators.
- Open Chevrolet’s Manuals and Guides lookup. Chevrolet provides searchable, downloadable owner manuals and says manuals for 2008-and-newer vehicles are also accessible through the myChevrolet app.
- Select the truck’s exact year and model, then open the Duramax Diesel Engine Supplement where one is listed.
- Search the PDF for Engine Drive Belt Routing, Dual Generator or Dual Alternator.
- Confirm the illustration says 6.6L and Dual Generator before releasing the tensioner.
Installation check before starting the engine
With the engine off and the key removed, compare every pulley to the OEM illustration. The belt’s ribbed side must sit in grooved pulleys, while its smooth back runs on smooth idlers. Verify that all ribs are seated, the belt is centered on every pulley and no span crosses or rubs another component. Rotate the crankshaft by hand only if you have the proper procedure and tools; otherwise, have the routing checked professionally before startup.
A belt that appears too short or too long is not a reason to improvise a different path. Recheck the belt application, model year and single- versus dual-generator configuration first.
